Subject: New fellowship announcement

Dear friends of the EUSTORY Network!
Please note that the Institute of Human Sciences in Vienna has
announced the newly established Körber-Fellowship: "History and Memory in
Europe" for the year 2003/2004.
The Körber Foundation and the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM)
jointly award one Visiting Fellowship and two Junior Visiting Fellowships on
History and Memory in Europe. The objective is to support projects that
contribute to historical research on the 20th century in a transnational
European perspective by
a) developing an interdisciplinary and innovative theoretical
approach;
b) reflecting the role of historiography, the position and
significance of memory in society; and
c) considering the 'politics' and 'culture' of history.
The six-months fellowships will enable junior and senior scholars
from Eastern or Western Europe to work in Vienna on a research project of
their choice within the framework of the objective. The fellows will
participate in the scholarly community and activities of IWM.

Further information about the conditions, requirements and
application procedure you find here:
http://www.iwm.at/f-koerb.htm

I hope that this information is valuable for you and I would kindly
ask you to pass it on to as many collegues as possible

Yours sincerely
Eva-Clarita Onken

Conférence Permanente Européenne des Associations de Professeurs d’Histoire
European Standing Conference of History Teachers' Associations

                            The Hague, 18 November 2002

Dear members,

In the past months we have informed you several times about the possibility
to apply for a Comenius grant from the European Union for the next EUROCLIO
Conference School History on the Move. Changes in the Learning and Teaching
of History in the Decade of Educational Reforms, which will be held in
Bologna/Castel San Pietro, Italy, March 25-30, 2003.

Unfortunately Brussels has recently revised its decision, which means that
the Bologna Conference is officially no longer eligible for Comenius
bursaries. You understand that we are extremely annoyed about this decision,
since we asked all of you to apply for bursaries. We know that for many of
you a bursary is the only way to participate in this conference.

We have contacted Brussels and after negotiations they leave the decision to
accept the conference under Comenius up to the National Agencies. On our
request Brussels has sent a message to all the National Agencies to ask for
flexibility in delegating these bursaries. We hope that the National
Agencies will act leniently in this case. If you have applied for a bursary
it is possibly best to contact your National Comenius Agency to find out
what they have decided! The contact information for Comenius is to be found
on the Comenius web site: europa.eu.int/comm/education/socrates/comenius

However, the conference is now eligible under the Grundtvig programme. This
means that a maximum of four persons per country can receive a bursary. For
those of you who have not applied for a Comenius bursary or are rejected for
Comenius it is possible to apply for a Grundtvig bursary. Please contact
your National Grundtvig Agency for more information and application forms
and procedure. For contact information for Grundtvig please look on the
Grundtvig web site: europa.eu.int/comm/education/socrates/adult

If you have any questions, please contact the EUROCLIO Secretariat.

We are very sorry to bring you this news, but since it is still possible to
apply we hope that many of you are successful in obtaining a bursary. Good
luck with your applications!

Best regards,

Willemijn van der Toorn.

Dear Friends,
As your contact with the Board, I thought I would pass on a copy of the
letter relating to the issue of the Comenius grants which has caused
many of our members problems recently.
Best wishes,
